HOREN, ZIEN EN ZWIJGEN
This artistic research I created at Academie van Leiden, focusing on climate change, inspired by consumerism.
When it comes to awareness of our own (consumer) behavior, we can make a significant impact on the environment by making conscious choices. However, in today's society, we seem to be far removed from nature, ourselves, and the people around us. We engage in plenty of destructive behaviors, both to nature and to ourselves. Horen, zien en zwijgen is a series of black-and-white self-portraits that invite myself and the viewer to self-reflect on our own behavior and our coexistence with nature.

As a counter point to the gloomy portraits, I made colorful collages that overgrow my portrait with mushrooms. This shows that it’s not all so bleak, that nature is resilient and can bounce back.
